The United Arab Emirates has announced its withdrawal from OPEC and the OPEC+ alliance effective May 1, 2026, stating that the decision is sovereign and based on a comprehensive review of its production policies.

Energy Minister Suhail Al Mazrouei said the move aims to enhance decision-making flexibility in line with national interests, while maintaining a balance between producers and consumers.

The decision comes amid rapid shifts in the global energy market.
