Australia head coach Tony Popovic announced on Monday that 10 new players have joined the national team training camp in Florida, as preparations intensify for the 2026 World Cup finals.
The squad also sees the return of goalkeeper Joe Gauci, who is on loan from Aston Villa to Port Vale, where he will compete directly with Melbourne City goalkeeper Patrick Beach for a place in the final squad, according to the Australian Associated Press.
Gauci had previously fallen behind captain Mathew Ryan and Paul Izzo in the goalkeeping pecking order, but his recent performances in the FA Cup have brought him back into contention.
New additions to the squad include Melbourne City player Aziz Behich, as well as young prospects Mohamed Toure and Nestory Irankunda. Popovic also handed first opportunities to QPR player Daniel Bennie and Wigan Athletic loanee Rafael Borges Rodrigues, while Marcus Younis was omitted from the squad.
The new players join an earlier group announced by Popovic, which includes Harry Souttar and Mathew Leckie, both already in Florida.
Australia is set to play a friendly match against Mexico in Los Angeles on May 31, which will serve as the final test before the announcement of the 26-man World Cup squad on June 1.
After the match, the team will relocate to its training base in the San Francisco Bay Area ahead of its World Cup campaign.
