Ghalibaf Appointed Iran’s Special Envoy for China After Trump’s Beijing Visit

Iranian sources announced Sunday that Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has been appointed as Iran’s special envoy for China, one day after U.S. President Donald Trump concluded his visit to Beijing.

According to the sources, Ghalibaf, who also serves as Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator, has been tasked with overseeing relations with China, replacing Ali Larijani in the role, according to Tasnim News Agency.

The appointment comes amid growing strategic ties between Tehran and Beijing as regional and international tensions continue to rise.

On Saturday evening, Ghalibaf wrote on X that “the world stands on the verge of a new global order,” echoing remarks previously made by Chinese President Xi Jinping about unprecedented global transformations accelerating across the world.

He added that what he described as “the Iranian people’s 70 days of resilience” had helped accelerate these changes, saying that “the future belongs to the countries of the Global South.”
