Dozens of Israeli settlers entered the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque on Sunday under heavy police protection, raising Israeli flags near the Dome of the Rock and performing religious rituals described by Palestinian authorities as provocative.

The Jerusalem Governorate warned that the escalation forms part of a systematic policy aimed at imposing a new reality at the holy site, including efforts to alter its historical and religious status.

The authority reaffirmed that the entire Al-Aqsa compound is an exclusively Muslim place of worship and that the Jordanian Waqf remains the sole body responsible for its administration, calling on the international community to intervene urgently.
