Military escalation in southern Lebanon entered a new phase after the Israeli army announced control of the historic and strategic Beaufort Castle (Qalaat Al-Shaqif).
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the capture of the site as a pivotal development in the confrontation.
On the ground, intensive Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanese towns on Sunday reportedly killed eight people and injured more than 32 others, marking another violation of the ceasefire agreement.
In response to the deteriorating situation, France launched diplomatic efforts by requesting an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the ongoing hostilities and their consequences.
