The European Parliament has decided to adopt the French search engine Qwant as the default search service on its internal computers starting June 4, as part of efforts to strengthen digital sovereignty and enhance personal data protection.
According to an internal memorandum, Qwant will replace Google as the default search engine in both Firefox and Microsoft Edge browsers, while users will remain free to select alternative search providers.
The move comes amid broader European Union efforts to reduce reliance on foreign technology companies and promote European digital alternatives.
