Members of Hungary’s new parliament were sworn in, officially ending Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s 16-year rule.
Lawmakers elected Tisza Party leader Peter Magyar as prime minister by 140 votes to 54.
Magyar called for “opening a new chapter” in Hungary’s history and urged figures associated with the previous administration to resign.
Meanwhile, newly elected parliamentary speaker Ágnes Fürsthofer restored the European Union flag to the parliament building after a 12-year absence, signaling a new political direction in Budapest.
