A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Biobío region near central Chile’s coast, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
The agency said the quake occurred at a depth of 23 kilometers, while Germany’s GFZ Centre for Geosciences estimated the depth at 10 kilometers.
No major casualties or significant material damage have been officially reported so far, as local authorities continue assessing the impact in areas near the epicenter.
