Colombia opened its 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan on Wednesday in a Group 11 match played before nearly 80,000 spectators.
Daniel Muñoz gave Colombia the lead in the 40th minute after finishing a superb assist from Luis Díaz.
Uzbekistan, making its first-ever World Cup appearance, equalized through Abbosbek Fayzullaev in the 60th minute, but Colombia quickly regained control as Díaz scored the go-ahead goal five minutes later.
Substitute Jhaminton Campaz sealed the victory with a late goal in stoppage time, securing all three points for the South American side.
The win moves Colombia to the top of Group 11 following the earlier 1-1 draw between Portugal and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
