Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz praised his players’ resilience and tactical intelligence following their dramatic victory over Panama in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana secured all three points thanks to a stoppage-time winner scored by young midfielder Caleb Yerenki, giving the team a valuable start in Group 12.
The victory came despite Panama controlling large portions of the match, enjoying greater possession and creating several of the game’s most dangerous scoring opportunities.
Queiroz acknowledged that his side had to endure significant pressure, particularly during the first half, but successfully executed its game plan.
The Portuguese coach said his players demonstrated patience, discipline, and smart decision-making, explaining that Ghana intentionally allowed Panama to advance before capitalizing on opportunities late in the match to secure the win.
