German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has stated that Germany is prepared to participate in a maritime mine-clearing operation in the Strait of Hormuz, provided several political, legal, and security conditions are met.
According to Wadephul, all hostilities must first cease, and all parties involved must agree to fully reopen the strategic waterway between Iran and Oman to international shipping.
He added that Germany would also require a formal mandate for such a mission, noting that a United Nations resolution could serve as the legal basis, while parliamentary approval would also be necessary.
Meanwhile, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Germany has dispatched two naval vessels toward the Red Sea in preparation for a possible future mission in the region.
He said the minehunter Fulda and the support ship Mosel are currently transiting the Suez Canal en route to the Red Sea as part of contingency preparations linked to maritime security in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
