Fire Erupts at Haldia Petrochemicals Plant in India, Several Injured

Haldia Petrochemicals announced on Tuesday that a fire broke out at one of its facilities in India’s West Bengal state, injuring several people while leaving plant operations unaffected so far.

The company said the fire occurred in an area that had previously experienced thefts of naphtha, a highly flammable hydrocarbon used in refining processes.

According to the company, preliminary information suggests the incident may have occurred near a location where attempts to steal naphtha had taken place, adding that the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Haldia Petrochemicals also said it has repeatedly warned local communities against unauthorized access to petroleum products, while local media reported that several injured people were taken to hospitals.
