At least nine people were killed in Ukraine on Monday as Russian forces launched a series of attacks across the country, including strikes on the capital Kyiv that reportedly sparked a fire at a historic cathedral.
On the Russian side, local authorities reported that three people were killed in a drone attack on the southern city of Tula.
The Ukrainian military said Russia launched 70 missiles and 611 drones overnight in one of the largest aerial assaults seen in recent months.
According to preliminary figures released by the military, Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 50 missiles and 582 drones of various types.
Meanwhile, the Russian military said it had carried out a “large-scale strike” against Ukrainian military facilities in Kyiv, as well as targets in the Kharkiv and Dnipro regions.
The latest attacks underscore the continuing escalation of the conflict, with both sides intensifying air operations and strikes on military and strategic infrastructure.
