The Moroccan Football Federation announced Friday that Lille midfielder Ayoub Bouaddi has officially chosen to represent Morocco instead of France, less than a month before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
In a statement published on its official platforms, the federation said FIFA approved Bouaddi’s request to switch his sporting nationality, making him immediately eligible to play for Morocco in international competitions.
The 18-year-old midfielder previously represented France at youth level, most recently captaining the French under-21 team during the European qualifying campaign.
Bouaddi is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in French football after establishing himself as a regular starter for Lille, making more than 90 appearances over the past three seasons.
He also holds the distinction of being the youngest player to appear in a European club competition match at the age of 16 years and three days.
In a message posted on Instagram, Bouaddi said: “I am very happy to announce my choice to represent Morocco internationally. It is a decision from the heart, guided by my love for my country and the values I received at home.”
