Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk announced on Wednesday evening that he has officially concluded his role in the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, stepping down after leading a special government task force aimed at cutting federal spending.
In a post on his social media platform X, Musk expressed gratitude to President Trump, writing: “As my scheduled term as a special government employee concludes, I would like to thank President Trump for the opportunity to help reduce unnecessary spending.”
Musk had been at the helm of what he referred to as the “Government Efficiency Authority,” a body tasked with streamlining operations across federal agencies and promoting cost-saving measures.
He added that the mission of the authority “will grow stronger over time, becoming a way of life throughout government,” signaling confidence in the initiative’s long-term impact on administrative reform.
