Britain, France, Germany, and Italy said on Monday they are prepared to consider lifting sanctions on Iran in response to steps related to its nuclear program, following the announcement of a U.S.-Iran agreement aimed at ending hostilities between the two countries.
In a joint statement, the four nations stressed that Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon and expressed their willingness to work with the United States, Iran, and the International Atomic Energy Agency to achieve that objective through diplomatic engagement.
French President Emmanuel Macron also said that leaders attending the Group of Seven summit would discuss the long-term reopening of the Strait of Hormuz under the framework of the U.S.-Iran agreement.
According to Macron, discussions will focus on assessing the outcomes of the agreement, supporting stability in Lebanon, ensuring the permanent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and advancing negotiations on Iran’s nuclear and missile activities.
The statements come amid growing diplomatic efforts to consolidate regional de-escalation and revive negotiations surrounding Iran’s nuclear program.
