French authorities are investigating whether an obscure Israeli company known as “Black Core” was involved in a foreign interference campaign targeting the far-left party France Unbowed ahead of municipal elections held in March, according to three informed sources.

Two of the sources said French intelligence services are currently trying to determine who may have hired the company to carry out what is believed to have been a smear campaign against three party candidates.

The alleged operation reportedly included misleading websites and social media accounts accusing the candidates of criminal behavior, as well as offensive online advertisements.

On its website and LinkedIn page, Black Core describes itself as “an elite influence, cyber, and technology company built for the modern era of information warfare.”

Reuters reported that it was unable to identify who is behind the company, verify its headquarters, or locate any record of it in Israeli corporate registries.
