The White House said Thursday that US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed during their summit on the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open to ensure the free flow of global energy supplies.
According to the White House statement, the two leaders also discussed increasing Chinese purchases of American agricultural products as part of broader economic cooperation efforts.
The White House described the meeting as “good,” while the summary made no mention of Taiwan, one of the main sources of tension between Washington and Beijing.
The summit comes amid rising regional tensions linked to the conflict involving the United States and Iran, fueling concerns over energy security and maritime navigation in the Gulf region.
