Hammer Attack in Tokyo Injures Five; Suspect Still at Large

Japanese media reported on Thursday that a man armed with a hammer injured five people in Tokyo, including a teenager who suffered serious facial injuries, according to Agence France-Presse.

The attack took place on Wednesday in Fussa, where the 44-year-old suspect assaulted two teenagers near his residence. One sustained severe facial injuries, while the other suffered minor shoulder injuries, according to NHK and Kyodo News.

Reports added that when police arrived at the scene, the suspect sprayed an unknown substance at officers before fleeing. Three police officers were reportedly injured during the incident.

Violent incidents of this nature are rare in Japan, which is known for its low crime rates and strict gun control laws.
