Liverpool, English Premier League champions, announced the retirement of the No. 20 jersey worn by Portuguese international Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident in Spain last week.
The club stated on its official website that the number will be retired across all teams, including the women’s squad and the academy, following consultations with Jota’s wife, Rute, and his family.
Jota, 28, and his brother André Silva, a player for Benfica in Portugal’s second division, both lost their lives in the car crash that occurred in northwestern Spain on July 3.
