Nationalist candidate Karol Nawrocki has won the Polish presidential election, defeating liberal Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, according to official results released Monday — a result seen as a major setback for the pro-European government.
According to the National Electoral Commission, Nawrocki secured 50.89% of the vote, while Trzaskowski received 49.11% in Sunday’s runoff, highlighting the deep polarization within the EU and NATO member state.
Outgoing President Andrzej Duda congratulated Nawrocki on his victory, writing on X: “Congratulations to the winner!” He also thanked Polish citizens for the high turnout, which reached 71.63%.
