Major General Michael Onouga, Director of Army Public Relations in Nigeria, said no foreign soldiers participated on the ground in the operation that killed ISIS leader Abu Bilal al-Minouki.
Speaking during a television program about the recent joint counterterrorism operation carried out by Nigerian and U.S. forces, Onouga said the United States only provided intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance support.
“There was no foreign troop presence on the ground during the operation. What we received was intelligence assistance, surveillance support, reconnaissance, and other force-enabling capabilities,” he said.
Onouga described the mission as a “precision strike” carefully executed against a high-value terrorist target.
On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a joint operation between American and Nigerian forces had resulted in the killing of the deputy leader of ISIS in Africa, according to the German Press Agency.
