Prosecutors in Peru have launched an investigation into an alleged human trafficking network that lured citizens with fake job offers in Russia, only to force them into combat against Ukraine.
In a statement, the prosecutor’s office said that victims, including former military personnel, were recruited through misleading advertisements on social media promising well-paid security jobs in Russia.
According to information provided to police, “the victims were transported to Russia and, upon arrival, were forced to participate in combat operations in the context of the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine.”
Authorities confirmed that an investigation has been opened into suspected human trafficking offenses, amid concerns about an organized network exploiting individuals seeking employment abroad.
