Human rights organization FairSquare announced plans to file a complaint with the International Olympic Committee’s Ethics Commission against FIFA President Gianni Infantino, accusing him of violating the principle of political neutrality.
The complaint cites Infantino’s close relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump, the decision to lift the suspension of U.S. forward Folarin Balogun, and FIFA’s decision to award Trump the “FIFA Peace Award.”
IOC President Kirsty Coventry said any formal complaint would be reviewed, while several European lawmakers have called for an investigation into possible political interference in FIFA’s decision-making.
