Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 920 as More Than 50,000 Remain Missing

The death toll from the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to 920, while more than 50,000 people are reported missing as hopes of finding additional survivors continue to fade amid limited relief efforts.

Rescue teams, supported by international crews, are racing against time to search through the rubble of collapsed buildings for survivors.

Heavy machinery has been deployed alongside hundreds of volunteers working to remove debris west of Caracas, with rescuers repeatedly calling for complete silence to detect possible cries for help from those trapped beneath the ruins.

In a televised address on Friday evening, Venezuela’s acting president Delcy Rodríguez announced the deployment of 14,000 military and police personnel to La Guaira state to support rescue operations and maintain security.
