Authorities in the Philippines said on Monday that four people were killed and more than 200 injured after a powerful earthquake struck the country’s southern coast and triggered tsunami waves.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake had a magnitude of 7.8.

Regional warning centers issued tsunami alerts following the quake, while emergency teams continue to assess the damage and conduct rescue operations.

Authorities are working to assist victims and determine the full extent of the human and material losses.
