Seismic monitoring stations in Egypt recorded a 5.7-magnitude earthquake north of Marsa Matrouh at a depth of approximately 26 kilometers.
The National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics reported that residents felt the tremor lightly, with no human or material losses recorded.
The quake coincided with another earthquake that struck the Greek island of Crete, reflecting increased seismic activity in the eastern Mediterranean.
