Iraqi media reported on Monday a total collapse of the electricity system in central and southern Iraq, causing a full power outage in several provinces, including Basra, Maysan, Wasit, and Kirkuk.

A source attributed the failure to faults in transmission lines and heavy loads.

This follows the Prime Minister’s statements on plans to develop electricity production and secure gas supplies to power plants.
