Sudan has been hit by new floods in recent days, causing limited material damage compared to recent years.
The Ministry of Irrigation issued a red alert, warning of widespread flooding, though water levels in the Blue Nile have begun to recede while the White Nile remains high.
The floods affected areas in Sennar, Gezira, and Khartoum states.
The disaster renewed debate over the impact of Ethiopia’s Grand Renaissance Dam, which holds 74 billion cubic meters of water, with opinions divided between blaming the dam and attributing the floods to natural cycles.
