Egypt inaugurated the Grand Egyptian Museum on Saturday evening in a landmark global event attended by 79 official delegations, including kings, presidents, and heads of government.

The ceremony was hailed as “a milestone in human cultural history,” as the museum is the largest in the world dedicated to a single civilization.

Housing over 100,000 artifacts spanning 5,000 years of Egyptian history, the $1 billion complex is expected to attract up to five million visitors annually.
