Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi announced that lawmakers will convene next Tuesday to elect a new president from among 19 candidates, including the incumbent, Abdul Latif Rashid, and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.

The move comes within Iraq’s power-sharing framework, as the Coordination Framework bloc nominated Nouri al-Maliki for prime minister ahead of forming the next government.
