Militão Ruled Out of World Cup in Major Blow to Real Madrid and Brazil

Real Madrid have confirmed that defender Éder Militão will miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup after undergoing surgery for a hamstring tear.

In an official statement, the club said the operation was successful and performed by surgeon Lasse Lempainen under the supervision of Real Madrid’s medical staff. Militão is expected to begin his rehabilitation program in the coming days.

The Brazilian defender sustained the injury during Real Madrid’s match against Deportivo Alavés, experiencing discomfort shortly before halftime and immediately requesting to be substituted.

Although initial assessments suggested he could recover in time for the tournament, further medical tests revealed a recurrence of a previous injury suffered in December, ruling him out less than 50 days before kickoff.

His absence represents a significant setback for both Real Madrid and the Brazil national team, especially following confirmation that forward Rodrygo will also miss the tournament due to injury. Militão has struggled with injuries in recent years, including two serious knee issues.
