Massad Boulos, U.S. President Donald Trump’s adviser for Middle East and African affairs, has revealed ongoing American efforts to broker a power-sharing agreement between Libya’s rival administrations in the east and west of the country, with the aim of unifying state institutions.
According to Boulos, the proposal includes the formation of a unified government alongside increased support for U.S. investment in Libya’s oil sector.
The Financial Times reported that the initiative could serve as a transitional arrangement ahead of parliamentary and presidential elections. Estimates suggest Libya’s oil production could potentially double to three million barrels per day by the end of the current decade.
