The Wall Street Journal reported that US forces fired on a Panama-flagged vessel after it attempted to breach the US blockade imposed on Iranian ports.

The newspaper said there were no reports of injuries resulting from the incident so far.

The identity of the vessel and the nature of the damage it sustained were not immediately clear, amid growing tensions over maritime traffic in the region as a result of the confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
