At least five people were killed in Israeli airstrikes and drone attacks targeting southern Lebanon on Saturday, only hours after a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency.
The agency reported that Israeli warplanes and drones carried out a series of strikes on the Nabatieh area overnight and into the morning, destroying residential buildings and homes. Artillery shelling also targeted the city and its outskirts before dawn.
The attacks occurred despite the implementation of a ceasefire agreement. According to Reuters, a U.S. official said Israel and Hezbollah agreed to halt hostilities on Friday following an escalation of fighting, with the ceasefire taking effect at 4:00 p.m. local time.
