The United Kingdom has tested a new generation of long-range strike weapons that the government hopes to deliver to Ukraine within months as part of efforts to develop munitions that are cheaper and faster to produce than existing systems such as the Storm Shadow missile.
The trials involved weapons capable of striking targets at ranges of more than 500 kilometers while carrying warheads weighing at least 225 kilograms. The tests were conducted at a military range in the Hebrides islands.
Additional trials are scheduled in the coming months as the British government seeks to accelerate the development of these systems to support Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
The Ministry of Defence has asked British companies to develop long-range strike weapons capable of speeds exceeding 600 kilometers per hour, at a cost of around £400,000 per unit, with production capacity reaching at least 20 weapons per month within months of receiving an order.
