Fifteen workers were killed, and another was injured after a partial collapse at a closed gold mine in the Wadi Halfa area of northern Sudan, according to the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company.

The company said the workers entered the mine despite an earlier closure order issued because of engineering and safety risks.

It stressed that mine closures are preventive measures aimed at protecting lives and preventing similar accidents.
