Libya’s General Electricity Company said Wednesday that a power transformer station in the western city of Zawiya had been completely taken out of service after catching fire following an attack by an unidentified drone.
The company said the incident caused power outages across large areas south of the city, while its technical teams began assessing the damage and working to restore electricity supplies.
It warned that continued attacks on network facilities could lead to partial or nationwide power outages. Meanwhile, US company GE suspended its operations and withdrew its teams from the Zawiya power plant until security conditions improve.
