Iraq’s Second Karkh Investigation Court announced on Sunday the recovery of 21.424 billion Iraqi dinars, equivalent to more than $14 million, in a financial fraud case.

According to a statement from the Supreme Judicial Council, the money was recovered from two companies accused of violating the law by fraudulently transferring funds abroad to profit from differences in the dollar exchange rate.

The judiciary said investigations and legal proceedings would continue against other companies suspected of using unlawful methods to generate profits at the expense of public funds.
