Police remained deployed in central Frankfurt on Sunday following riots and looting after a youth demonstration the previous day.

The unrest involved smashed shop windows, fires and injuries among demonstrators and police officers. Footage showed looted stores and burning barricades, while police used water cannons to extinguish fires and clear obstacles. Authorities detained 30 people.

Hesse State Premier Boris Rhein warned that those responsible for the violence would face consequences.

Separate incidents of violence were also reported in Cologne and Berlin.
