Ebola Outbreak Reportedly Kills 5,376 Across Africa

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention reportedly announced 5,376 deaths in the latest Ebola outbreak, including 5,372 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and two each in Kenya and Uganda.

The outbreak began in the DRC in May and infected more than 10,000 people, according to figures dated October 31, with a reported fatality rate exceeding 50%.

The virus reportedly spread to Uganda, Kenya, and Nigeria and was identified as the rare Bundibugyo strain, for which no approved vaccine or treatment is available.

Recent clinical trials involving Ervebo were also reported, although the vaccine’s established effectiveness is against the Zaire strain, not Bundibugyo.
