Brazil: JBS Faces Money-Laundering Complaints Linked to Amazon Deforestation

Environmental and human rights organizations filed 14 legal complaints against Brazilian meat processor JBS and several financial partners over suspected money laundering linked to illegal Amazon deforestation.

The complaints, submitted on November 5 to authorities in the United Kingdom, Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands, concern allegedly unlawful proceeds from cattle farming on illegally deforested land.

The Transnational Legal Coalition said it sought investigations into transactions involving JBS and its banking, investment and advisory partners.

JBS disputed the allegations, saying it had not received the underlying evidence and highlighting satellite monitoring and supplier controls.

Authorities have not established any wrongdoing.
