Dozens Killed and Injured in Accidental Explosion in Northern Myanmar

Media reports indicate that dozens of people were killed and injured following a powerful explosion on Sunday in the village of Kwang Tat in Myanmar’s northern Shan State.

Casualty figures remain unclear, with medical and local sources reporting between 46 and 59 deaths, including women and children, and more than 70 injuries.

The Ta’ang National Liberation Army, which controls the area, said the blast resulted from an accidental explosion involving explosives stored for mining and quarry operations under its economic department. An investigation has been launched into the incident, which comes amid the ongoing civil conflict that has gripped Myanmar since the 2021 military coup.
