Meteorologists are warning of the return of extreme temperatures across several European countries, accompanied by an increase in so-called “tropical nights,” during which temperatures do not fall below 20°C overnight, raising concerns about potential health risks.
In Spain, several regions have been placed under weather alerts as temperatures approach 40°C, with cities including Seville, Córdoba, and Zaragoza expected to be among the most affected.
France, Portugal, and Italy are also preparing for an intense heatwave that could push temperatures to around 40°C.
Experts have warned that persistently high nighttime temperatures may pose significant public health risks, particularly in urban areas affected by the “urban heat island” phenomenon.
