Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister said that the U.S. naval blockade imposed on Iran will be lifted starting tonight, according to remarks carried by the Tasnim News Agency.
The announcement follows reports that the United States and Iran have reached a peace agreement aimed at easing tensions that have recently escalated across the region.
Earlier, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Washington and Tehran had agreed to a peace deal and that the official signing ceremony would take place in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 19.
U.S. President Donald Trump subsequently declared that the agreement with Iran had been fully completed, confirming the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping and the immediate removal of the U.S. naval blockade.
The developments are being viewed as a significant step toward reducing tensions in the Middle East ahead of the formal signing of the agreement.
