Jordan’s Public Security Directorate announced that seven people had been killed and 34 others injured in an armed attack targeting mourners attending a funeral at a church in the village of Hamoud, in the southern Karak Governorate.

Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya said security forces were continuing their search for those responsible, emphasizing that investigations were ongoing and that it was too early to determine whether the attackers had domestic or foreign connections.

Public Security Director Obeidallah Al-Maaytah reported that 27 of the injured remained under medical treatment.

Eyewitnesses said armed assailants arrived near the church in a vehicle and opened fire on funeral attendees before fleeing the scene.

King Abdullah II of Jordan pledged that those responsible for the attack would face the severest penalties under the law.
