Jordan opened its first-ever FIFA World Cup campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Austria in the opening match of Group J at the 2026 World Cup.
Austria took an early lead through Romano Schmid before Ali Olwan equalized for Jordan, scoring the nation’s first-ever goal in World Cup history.
In the second half, Jordan fell behind after Yazan Al-Arab scored an own goal, while Marko Arnautović sealed Austria’s victory with a stoppage-time penalty.
The result earned Austria its first three points of the tournament, while Jordan remained without a point.
