A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck parts of Indonesia on Tuesday, triggering a series of strong aftershocks, according to monitoring agencies.
The initial quake caused intense shaking that lasted for more than a minute, although no immediate reports of casualties or major damage were released.
The epicenter was located about 46 kilometers east-southeast of Palu, the capital of Central Sulawesi Province.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake occurred at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers.
Indonesia is one of the world’s most seismically active countries due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire, where several major tectonic plates converge.
