NATO Reaffirms Collective Defense and Announces New Aid for Ukraine

NATO concluded its 36th summit in Ankara on Wednesday by issuing a final declaration reaffirming its commitment to Article 5 on collective defense and strengthening deterrence against Russian threats and terrorism.

The alliance announced new defense agreements worth more than $50 billion, expanded cooperation in artificial intelligence and cyber defense, and pledged €70 billion in military and security assistance to Ukraine during 2026, with support continuing into 2027.

The statement also stressed that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons and called on Tehran to respect freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
