Disaster management authorities in Afghanistan and Pakistan reported on Tuesday that nearly 188 people have been killed due to heavy rains, floods, and snowfall affecting both countries for more than two weeks, according to AFP.
In Afghanistan, which is facing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, National Disaster Management Authority spokesperson Mohammad Yousuf Hamad said that 123 people have died since March 26 as a result of heavy rainfall, flooding, landslides, and lightning.
He noted that between Sunday and Tuesday alone, 46 people were killed across the country, including a newborn in Ghazni province, whose parents’ car fell into a water-filled ditch shortly after leaving a maternity hospital.
Severe weather conditions continue to impact large areas of both countries, raising concerns about worsening humanitarian conditions as extreme weather persists.
